Parenting is one of the most rewarding and most challenging journeys we can take. If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re looking for support, guidance, or maybe just reassurance that you’re not alone. I want you to know that you’re in the right place.
Helping Parents of Children with ADHD and Emotional Regulation Challenges
I’m Carolyn Fisher, a licensed marriage and family therapist specializing in helping parents of children with ADHD and emotional regulation challenges navigate the ups and downs of parenting. I am trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an evidence-based approach that helps children ages 2-7 develop stronger connections with their parents while addressing challenging behaviors. I also offer individual therapy for parents dealing with stress and anxiety and children needing support with emotional regulation. Additionally, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a powerful therapy for reducing anxiety and processing difficult experiences.
Over the years, I’ve worked with many parents who come to me feeling exhausted, frustrated, or unsure if they’re handling things the “right” way. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. I firmly believe that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting; what works for one family might not work for another. My goal is to help you feel confident in your parenting, equipped with tools that fit your family’s unique needs.
One of the biggest misconceptions I hear from parents is that their child’s challenging behaviors are “misbehaviors.” More often than not, these behaviors are expressions of emotions that a child doesn’t yet have the skills to process. My work focuses on helping parents reframe these challenges as opportunities to teach emotional regulation and build a stronger parent-child connection.
If you’re feeling stuck, I want to encourage you: change is possible. Whether you’re looking for strategies to support your child, working through your own emotions around parenting, or seeking guidance on managing anxiety and stress, I’m here to help. Therapy is not about fixing what’s “wrong”, it’s about gaining insight, building confidence, and creating a path forward that feels right for you and your family.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing insights, strategies, and encouragement for parents navigating everything from emotional outbursts to morning routines. If you’d like to stay connected, be sure to check back for new posts!
Ready to take the next step? Whether you’re dealing with your child’s emotional regulation or your own parenting challenges, I’m here to guide you, reach out to start your journey toward greater peace and connection with your child. You’re doing better than you think. Parenting is hard, and seeking support is a sign of strength.
